Where does a Saturday afternoon in Cedar Park go when the plan needs a roof?
As of this fall, more and more of the answers sit within two exits of each other on 183A Toll, at the north end of the city. A sporting goods store with a Ferris wheel opened there in late August. One exit up, a 15.96-acre building complex now holds hockey gear, batting cages and an esports room under the same address. Across the toll road, the H-E-B Center starts its fall season within days. The roads connecting all of it are still under construction, and the largest tenant in the newest development hasn't opened yet.
A sporting goods store built like an attraction
Scheels opened Aug. 29 at 2150 Cedarview Drive, in the CedarView development off New Hope Drive near 183A Toll. Williamson Reporter called it the company's first Central Texas store and its second in Texas.
The retail floor is large on its own. Scheels' store page lists 300,000 square feet and more than 75 specialty shops. The Williamson Reporter preview put the whole facility at about 378,000 square feet, with more than 300,000 of that in retail. The parts that bring people back without a shopping list are the 65-foot indoor Ferris wheel and a 16,000-gallon saltwater aquarium with roughly 600 fish. The building also has a wildlife mountain, an animatronic dinosaur, golf and batting simulators, Fuzziwig's Candy Factory and Ginna's Café, which serves soups and sandwiches.
The store page lists Wednesday hours of 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Check the full weekly schedule before a weekend visit.
One exit up, a building full of practice space
The Crossover sits at 1717 Scottsdale Drive, at the southeast corner of Scottsdale Drive and 183A, near the Cedar Park–Leander line and across the toll road from the H-E-B Center. Perardi Development, which built it, describes a 15.96-acre site with direct access from the 183A Scottsdale exit.
Scheels is one big room. The Crossover works more like a cluster of specialists. Its tenant list includes Ice & Field, D1 Training, Hitters House, Marucci Clubhouse, The Fieldhouse, The League, MUV Dance Fitness, Esports Cave, HK Nutrition and Vessel IV Bar. MonkeySports joined on Sept. 12 in Suite 100, selling equipment for hockey, lacrosse and baseball. That puts the gear in the same building as the places people train in it. The complex is open daily from 6 a.m. to midnight, and each tenant sets its own hours.
| Stop | Where | Status this fall |
|---|---|---|
| Scheels | 2150 Cedarview Drive, CedarView | Open since Aug. 29 |
| The Crossover | 1717 Scottsdale Drive | Open daily, 6 a.m. to midnight |
| MonkeySports | The Crossover, Suite 100 | Open since Sept. 12 |
| H-E-B Center | Across 183A from The Crossover | Fall season starting Oct. 2 |
| J. Alexander's | CedarView | Announced, no firm date |
The arena across the toll road starts its season this week
The Scottsdale exit gets busy almost immediately. The Texas Stars play their home opener at the H-E-B Center on Oct. 2 at 7 p.m., Foreigner plays Oct. 7 at 8 p.m., and the Austin Spurs open at home Nov. 8 at 3 p.m. Because The Crossover is open until midnight across the road, one exit now covers an early training session, a game and a late stop afterward, all within sight of 183A.
Getting there runs through a construction zone until spring
Most of the drive between the two clusters is on New Hope Drive, which is in the middle of a large rebuild. The city has made these changes so far:
- Traffic signals at New Hope Drive and Enchanted Rock Drive went fully live July 30.
- Work at New Hope Drive and Main Street–Block House Drive was scheduled to finish by the time Scheels opened Aug. 29.
- A new intersection design at 183A Toll includes a traffic shift for the left-turn lanes from 183A onto New Hope Drive.
- New Hope Drive is being widened from four lanes to six between Block House Drive and CR 180. State filings put the cost at $49.5 million, and the city's projects dashboard shows completion in spring 2027.
- Design work continues on the western segment of New Hope Drive toward Lakeline Boulevard.
The city says more traffic changes will come along New Hope as crews widen it, so the lane layout may shift until the project wraps up. Drivers taking 183A between exits are on a toll road, which we covered in our look at how toll costs factor into commutes across the northwest corridor.
The same indoor, activity-based pattern shows up across town
Away from 183A, Cedar Park's newer businesses lean the same way. Many are built around a scheduled activity indoors, not a browse.
Dribble Soccer, at 1220 Toro Grande Blvd., soft-opened in June and held its public grand opening Aug. 30. The indoor facility runs recreational and competitive adult leagues, skill clinics and coach-led homeschool programs. SafeSplash Swim School is scheduled to open in November at 410 W. Whitestone Blvd., Ste. 302, with heated indoor pools and lessons all year. A few doors down at 400 W. Whitestone, VIP Furbabies opened Aug. 24, offering daycare, boarding and spa services for cats and dogs.
The dining additions are spread out more:
- Tutta Bella opened in September at 1310 Cypress Creek Road, Ste. 120, serving Italian dishes and house-baked pasta.
- Dave's Hot Chicken opened Aug. 7 at 1500 E. Whitestone Blvd., Ste. 100.
- Conejos Tex-Mex Cantina is expected to open in October or November at 2875 W. Whitestone Blvd., Ste. 190, near New Hope Drive. That timing is a forecast.
- Malina Flowers expects to open its second Austin-area shop in late November at 309 N. Bell Blvd.
The Bell District already has its library, the Saturday farmers market, Bell Park and the Backyard running. Preparation for its first mixed-use residential and retail buildings continues this year. For a wider look at how the city's everyday map fits together, see our Cedar Park neighborhood page.
CedarView's biggest pieces haven't arrived yet
Scheels feels like the whole story at CedarView right now, but it is the development's second-largest retail tenant. The largest is NFM, formerly Nebraska Furniture Mart, which is scheduled to open in 2027. Pickleman's Gourmet Cafe is slated to open inside the NFM store that same year.
The rest of the announced lineup stretches into late 2027:
| Announced for CedarView | Scale | Projected timing |
|---|---|---|
| J. Alexander's | About 8,500 square feet | No firm date; announced to open alongside NFM and Scheels |
| Marriott hotel and convention center | 297 rooms; 30,000 square feet of convention space | First quarter of 2027 |
| NFM, with Pickleman's inside | Largest retail tenant | 2027 |
| Haywire | 1005 E. New Hope Drive | Late 2027 |
All of these are projections, and the development's own announcements have already moved once. The CedarView page that announced J. Alexander's described Scheels as expected in the fourth quarter of 2026, and the store opened in August. The hotel and convention center are targeting the first quarter of 2027, and the New Hope widening is due in spring 2027. If both hold, the hotel's target date comes before the six-lane road is finished.
The outdoor dates still on the city calendar
The city's own fall events are still mostly outdoors, at the parks south of the new cluster:
- Spooktacular, Lakeline Park, Oct. 29, 5 to 8 p.m.
- Friday Night Flix, Elizabeth Milburn Park, Oct. 30, 7 to 9 p.m.
- Veterans Ceremony, Veterans Memorial Park, Nov. 7, 8 to 10 a.m.
- Fall Round Up, Lakeline Park, Nov. 7, noon to 4 p.m.
Nov. 7 has a morning event and an afternoon event at two different parks, and the next afternoon the Spurs home opener tips off at 3 p.m. across 183A from The Crossover.
A stretch of road that adds a hotel, a convention center and a six-lane New Hope Drive within a year changes daily traffic for the streets around it.
